The fourth offering in this series is called Polly Gray. Polly Gray, played by the late Helen McCrory, is one of the most compelling characters in Peaky Blinders. As the matriarch of the Shelby family and treasurer of the Peaky Blinders gang, she is a formidable and intelligent woman who often acts as the voice of reason in the midst of the gang’s chaos.
 
Polly is fiercely protective of her family, especially her nephew, Tommy Shelby, and her son, Michael Gray. She was the one who kept the Shelby business running while the men were away fighting in World War I. Polly is known for her sharp wit, unwavering confidence, and ability to navigate the dangerous world of organized crime. However, she also carries deep emotional scars, particularly from the loss of her children to the foster system and her struggles with faith and morality.
 
Throughout the series, Polly evolves from a strategist and advisor to someone who actively takes charge in moments of crisis. She has complicated relationships with both the law and the underworld, often walking a fine line between them. Her character arc is deeply emotional, as she grapples with love, betrayal, and revenge.
 
Helen McCrory’s performance as Polly Gray was widely praised, making her one of the most beloved characters in Peaky Blinders. Her presence brought depth to the series, and her absence in the final season (due to McCrory’s passing) left a significant void.
